FAQ
What makes St. Regis Custom Log Homes unique from other log homes?
St. Regis Custom Log Homes has been family owned and operated continuously since 1982.
We take pride in building each log home as if it was for family or our best friend.

Can I design my own home?
Absolutely.  We encourage our customers to have a part in the design of their home.

Can you design my home to my specifications?
We want to work with you and provide exactly what you need.  Our crews can build from your
plans or ours and in-house CAD is available.

What sizes are your logs and what species are they?
We produce logs in 6 different diameters: 6”, 7”, 8”, 9”, 10” & 12”.  Our logs are predominantly
Lodgepole and White Pine.

Are your logs green, seasoned or kiln dried?
Our logs are manufactured solely from standing dead trees.  After being “roughed out” to a
diameter ¾” larger than finished size, our logs are stored in our yard until needed.  This “air
drying” of seasoned wood reduces any shrinkage and cracking.

Do you hand peel your logs or are they lathe turned?
All of our logs are precision lathe turned.  As an option, we can give the logs a hand peeled look
while still retaining the precision fit.

What is the “R-factor” of logs?
We have seen a R-value of approximately 1.5 per inch of log diameter.  Several factors affect
this value including species of wood used (density), insulation, chinking, and construction.
Energy efficiency is of importance, however, R-value alone does not reflect the thermal value
and efficiency of log construction.

Do you allow for settling of the logs in your homes?
Our seasoned logs experience minimal settling after installation, but yes, we do allow space
above windows and doors.

Can you manufacture trusses and beam systems?
We can turn beams up to 33’ in length and they make very attractive trusses and roof support
systems.

Do you use treatments or sealers on your logs?
We do not coat our logs with insecticides or other toxic treatments.  We do recommend using a
water sealer for interior surfaces and an exterior sealing product suitable for your area.

Is chinking required?
Chinking is very much a personal preference.  It will increase the overall thermal value of your
home and we can provide it along with your logs.

What type of corner system do you use?
We use the Swedish Cope saddle notch corner system.

Is interface between logs needed?
We typically use an interface such as closed-cell gasket material.  There are many options
available to best suit ease of application and cost.

Do you pre-assemble the home in your log yard?
Our logs are designed to be interchangeable and easily assembled and do not require pre-
assembly.  However, we can and do pre-cut/assemble the log roof system in our yard before
shipping a log package to customers who wish to build the home themselves.

How long does it take to manufacture a log package?
This really depends on the size and complexity of the home and the time of year.  During the
busy building months of the summer an order may take longer to produce.  The logs for a 28’
x40’ take approximately 2 weeks to produce.  Maximum advance notice will help ensure timely
production by avoiding scheduling conflicts.

What kind of foundation is needed for a log home?
In most residential cases the local building code recommended foundation is sufficient.

What is the cost of freight?
We can arrange for the hauling of your logs as a service to you.  Cost can be estimated at
$3.00 a mile ($500 minimum) not including unloading.

How far do you ship log packages?
We ship logs all over the USA and have on occasion sent our building crew as far as 500 miles.

Do you provide on-site assistance when the log package is delivered?
On-site "training" is available as a service upon request.  Our master log-crafters can spend
some time with you one-on-one to assist you with the techniques needed to build your home.

What is the cost per square foot?
Square foot cost is a hard question to answer without knowing more about your budget and
tastes.  However, a rough guideline is $75 - $80 per square foot.

Do your log homes meet building codes?
Since building codes differ from area to area, our homes are designed to meet or exceed
standard building codes.

Do you only produce the logs or do you construct the log home as well?
We pride ourselves on accommodating our customer’s needs.  Our operation is capable of
producing a simple log package, a constructed log shell or a complete turnkey log home.
